About Karen Frandsen

I was born into a family of artists, with clients including royalty and owners of stately homes. I have been a professional artist for over 20 years, having previously worked in the areas of theatre costume and set design, and clothing design.

I started my art career working on china and glassware pieces, before moving onto furniture, murals, and oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and board.

During my time as an artist I have painted everything from corporate logos, to painted scenes, through portraits to abstract scenes, on items ranging from buttons through to entire offices and shops.

My specialities however are within the areas of portrait painting, and mythology and fantasy designs, and these are where my true artistic passions lie.

Within my works I aim to capture the essence of our mythological past and bring the world of fantasy into our mundane environments.

Tariff

Portraits are individually priced, pricing depends on the subject and level of detail. Typical examples of portrait prices can be seen on my portraits page.

For mural work and bespoke work, I bill my time at a set rate of £30 per hour. Most 4-5 character murals, for example this mural, can be completed within 5 to 7 hours depending on how much detail is required. More complex murals such as this one would normally take between 10 and 12 hours (split over two days).

I generally only travel to mural jobs which are located within 60 minutes drive of North-East London (E4 postcode). If you are outside of this range then it is possible for me to paint onto sections of canvas or board which can then be delivered to you.

Mentoring the pupils of Fullers' Hall day nursery

I can also perform artwork training and mentoringfor nursery and junior schools.

Here I am working with the pupils from Fullers' Hall day nursery.

The Fullers management team wanted to do something really special for their 35th anniversary, and so they asked me to work with their kids to produce a set of 4 celebratory mural pieces. The children selected a theme of "The Four Seasons" and then working under my guidance produced some wonderful pieces which are now wall-mounted within the nursery.

I also offer artwork tuition for children aged 6 to 12.

This is available as individual 1-1 tuition or in groups of up to two children at a time.

To the right you can see a canvas painted in the style of Claude Monet, this was produced by one of my 6-year-old pupils.
